Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 13

I'm so excited to finally be participating in one of the challenges for Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities 3 book.  I purchased his book several months ago with the intention of playing along with the challenges, but things kept getting in the way.  Until now!  This challenge was to use a product, one of his worn covers.  I chose the Composition Worn Cover as my base.

I started by coloring the fabric on the cover with Evergreen Bough Distress Ink.  I originally intended to add "Tags" to the cover as well, but it just didn't look right, so I stuck with my Big Ticket Die and the butterflies from French Flight.  I love the simplicity of it, as well as the addition of the word band.  It's hard to tell from the photo, but the butterflies are attached to the symphony paper with dimensionals, and they were given a touch of Wink of Stella for some twinkle!  A girl has to have some sparkle!

Here's a close-up of the spine of my book, I colored some seam binding with Evergreen Bough and Seedless Preserves. I added a Muse Token which states Knowledge.  This last weekend I took a class with Tammy Tutterow, and she talked about choosing embellishments with some meaning to you, I thought the K was great for the Knowledge I've gained while using distress products, and it's my first initial too!

Here's the inside of the book, I was inspired by Marjie's project, and loved how she designed the inside of her cover.  I used a combo of Distress Paint and inks, and also made my spray with Distress re-inkers and alcohol.  I used the Harlequin and Gothic layering stencils as well.  I love the "texture" created with the different techniques!
Here's a close-up of one of the quotes and detail of the layers:

12 Tags of 2014 - October Edition

Well, a lot of you know the infatuation I have with anything "Tim Holtz", specifically products of course!  I believe Tim has created a monthly tag for the last three years, and I can't wait for the first of the month to see what he's come up with this time!  Here's his October tag:
I have had very good intentions of playing along, and even wanted to create a book to hold the tags in, but this is the first one I've actually done within the same month!  Tim used his new Distress Stain Sprays on the tag, and I'll really didn't want to like them, because it would be just one more thing I would have to have, and unfortunately, I liked them!  I didn't have the exact products and stamps Tim used, but I'm proud of myself for improvising and not thinking I had to run out and purchase the exact same things!  Not that I don't already own quite a good stash anyway!  Here's my finished tag:
I really love how it turned out!  It was fun using the texture paste with the layering stencil for the background, and my color isn't quite the same, but sometimes I like just the first layer of color, and worry by adding more I'll muddy it and ruin the affect.  I used the Halloween Blueprint stamp set, and had to improvise with my accessories at the top.  I used Black Soot Distress Paint to tone down my Silver Tinsel, but learned in my class with Tammy Tutterow today I could have used alcohol ink with better results.  I'm still happy with it, and really excited to participate in the same month!
